1. Health Concerns

Please inform the nurse’s office of any new medical conditions such as asthma, life-threatening allergies, surgery or new daily medication.  Feel free to call (609-631-4164 ext 2831) or email cwillis@htsdnj.org) to discuss these changes or concerns.

2. Medications

NO child is to take or carry a PRESCRIPTION or OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS to school (Tylenol, allergy medication, etc.)  If a child, by order of a physician, must receive medications in school, District policy requires both parent and physician's signature prior to administrating medication. Therefore, a prescription label IS NOT acceptable in lieu of an MD’s order. A written order must be obtained.  These forms are available in the nurse’s office.  The medication must be in the original container with visible prescription label noted, and handed to the nurse.

3. Screenings

Height, weight, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and Scoliosis screening are completed periodically with a cumulative student record that follows the student from K to 12th grade.  Immunizations and yearly physicals are recorded here.  Please remember to send in updated vaccines and yearly physicals to the health office.

4. Incoming Kindergartners and 5th grade students******  Up-to--Date Immunizations will be required.

Please have most recently updated immunization records available for entrance into school.  The state of NJ has vaccine requirements that must be followed.  In addition to the age required vaccine schedules, all 5th graders must have their TDap and Meninigitis vaccines administered prior to starting 6th grade.  Immunization records can be handed in prior to graduation at Sayen or to the Middle School Health office where they will be 6th graders in the fall.

5. Health Updates

Please follow the guidelines below to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses like the flu:

  1. Remind your family to cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or into a sleeve, not hands.
  2. Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth
  3. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing or sneezing.  Use alcohol-based sanitizer only if soap and water are not available.
  4. Have you or your child stay home if they are sick, especially with a fever.
  5. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects.

These preventative measures are the same for all respiratory illnesses, including Coronavirus
