Guidance Program

Guidance Program at Sayen

Guidance Lessons

Guidance lessons are offered in every classroom at least 8 times during the school year for all grade levels. Lessons are psychoeducational based and include topics of: kindness, courage, honesty, fairness, empathy, responsibility..

Individual Counseling:

Individual counseling is offered to all students either by student request, parental request or administrator/teacher recommendation.  Counseling within the school setting is generally brief and solution focused.

 Group Counseling

Support groups will be offered as needed during the school year to all students that may benefit from the group counseling setting. Small groups are short-term based. Topics  can be; anxiety, grief, change in families..

These groups help support the social and emotional development of students, which has a positive influence on academic development and success. I schedule groups based on student needs, staff referral, or parental referral.  My role is to help all of our students succeed both academically and interpersonally. During group meetings, students will have the opportunity to learn new skills and behaviors through discussion of ideas, feelings, behaviors, attitudes and opinions. The students will participate in a variety of activities relating to the group topic. These activities may include art therapy activities, role-play, mindfulness and relaxation exercises, and practicing new behaviors. Groups will last for 4-6weeks  and for approximately 20 minutes (during a WIN period ). Group involvement should be a positive and rewarding experience, as well as an opportunity for your child to learn skills and share life experiences in a structured, confidential setting.

Counselor role:

I am also the Anti-Bullying Specialist, 504 case manager, coordinator of the intervention and referral team , member of the school safety and School Improvement panel.
